What is Your Biggest Anxiety Trigger?

Hello, friends. I’m Pastor Ronnie Tabor from First Baptist Church of Mascoutah (FBCM) here in Mascoutah, Illinois. If you’re reading this today, chances are you or someone you love is wrestling with anxiety. Maybe it’s the stress of a PCS move from Scott Air Force Base, financial pressures hitting families across the Metro East, or just the weight of daily life in Belleville, O’Fallon, or Shiloh. I’ve been there myself—during my Air Force days, deployments brought nights when worry felt like it would crush me. But here’s the truth that changed everything: The Bible speaks directly to anxiety, offering real peace that guards our hearts. What does the Bible say about anxiety? It doesn’t ignore it or shame us for feeling it. Instead, God invites us to bring every worry to Him. Let’s look at some of the most powerful Bible verses about anxiety that have carried me—and countless folks—through tough seasons.

  1. Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This is my go-to verse for anxiety. Paul wrote it from prison—talk about real stress! The secret? Replace worry with prayer and gratitude.

  2. 1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Simple and profound. “Cast” means throw it—like handing over a heavy backpack. God cares about you personally, Metro East friend.

  3. Psalm 94:19 – “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
David knew overwhelming anxiety, yet God’s comfort turned it to joy. I’ve seen this firsthand in our family during deployments.

  4. Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Jesus reminds us to focus on today. Easier said than done, but His words free us from future “what-ifs.”

  5. Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…”
God doesn’t just say “stop worrying”—He promises His presence and strength.

Many military families at Scott AFB and in the Metro East find strength in prayer together—just like this.

During one deployment, I clung to these verses daily. My wife Carrie and I prayed them over our family, and God’s peace showed up in ways we couldn’t explain. Today, in Mascoutah, we see the same in our community—parents anxious about kids, spouses facing moves, folks battling health worries in the Metro East. God’s Word works.

If anxiety is hitting you hard right now, start here: Pick one verse, memorize it, and pray it back to God. Share it with a friend. And if you’re near Mascoutah, come join us at FBCM—we’d love to pray with you in person.

Let’s encourage each other with these truths. You’re not alone, and God’s peace is available today.
